Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis, Chamaemelum Nobile and related species)

Chamomile Properties: Diaphoretic, anti-spasmodic, stimulant, carminative (anti-flatulent), nervine (sedative), emmenagogue (stimulates menstruation), anthelmintic (anti-parasitic), anodyne (pain killer), bitter, emetic, cathartic (psychological relief), anti-allergenic.

Benefits of Chamomile: It is anti-inflammatory and rich in antioxidants. It helps with muscle spasms. It is very soothing and promotes relaxation and sleep. It has been shown to have compounds that help with anxiety and depression. May help with seasonal allergies as well as colds. Helps with indigestion. It can reduce pain, swelling, neuralgia, toothache, and earache. helps with skin conditions d/t being anti-inflammatory and some antibiotic properties. A component found in the leaves, Apigenin, has been shown to have anti-anxiety and sedative effects. may help with cancer d/t high antioxidant content.

CAUTIONS/CONTRAINDICATIONS: Ragweed allergy sufferers may react to Chamomile, too. Avoid if pregnant or breastfeeding. May increase bleeding time. Adverse reactions: bleeding (possibly serious), sedating.
